Description

What you are responsible for: Clinical/ Technical • Scrub and run (where applicable) for a variety of cardiac procedures to maintain a high level of clinical and technical skill and assist the clinician during clinical procedures. • Deliver safe and appropriate patient care pre and post procedure (where applicable). • To be fully conversant with the content of the resuscitation trolley and the function of the defibrillator. • Ensure all necessary consumables, equipment and pharmacy is accurately and safely prepared prior to commencement of each clinical procedure. • Undertake all necessary patient identification and safety checks prior to the patient procedure and appropriately prepare patients for their procedures. • Ensure safe puncture site/wound management post procedure. • Undertake and record accurate documentation in the patient integrated care plan for both Cath Lab and Day Ward (where applicable). • Give an accurate and safe handover to nursing colleagues. • Ensure the patient is safely discharged home in line with specific discharge criteria (where applicable). • Ensure you are fully conversant with fire and evacuation procedures, emergency procedures and transfer policies. • To support the on-call service (where required). • Ensure a consistent approach to nursing practice, adhering to Health and Safety, Risk Management and Information Governance policies. • Ensure that stock is ordered at the end of each clinical session, and any delivered stock is put away in preparation for the next clinical day. • Ensure daily/monthly audits are completed and submitted to the Lead Cardiac Nurse within the deadline (where required). • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with Trust and staff. • Undertake duties in a professional manner which are consistent with the responsibilities of the post. • Follow the requirements of the Data Protection Act (1984) and GDPR, ensuring that confidentiality of information regarding staff and patients is maintained at all times. • Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with established procedures and the law. • Demonstrate safe, effective nursing practice which is research-based and compliant with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. • Ensure that appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment is worn and used when undertaking clinical sessions and that infection control guidelines are adhered to. • Ensure all relevant information for patient reporting is accurately recorded and efficiently documented. • Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and to ensure patients views are sought and taken into account in the decision-making process. Operational • Ensure timely reporting of any faults on equipment used for the provision of patient care immediately. • Report all incidents, near misses and complaints in line with Company Policy, dual reporting on hospital systems where required and assist in the submission, recording and investigation of incidents according to our policy. • When working in the lab environment, be aware of IRMER regulations and ensure safety equipment, monitoring badges and protective lead is worn. • Assist with maintaining adequate stock levels through efficient communication of low stock and accurate hTrak data inputting. • Maintain a clean and safe working environment. • Maintain a high level of professionalism, customer care, and service provision, acting at all times in a professional and caring manner towards patients, visitors and colleagues. • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with clinical and non- clinical colleagues.
